A man identified as Taiwo Badejo allegedly stabbed his friend, known as Monday, to death over a debt of N2,500 at Oko Oba area of Lagos State.
According to Drivetvnews, Badejo and Monday were arguing over the money on Friday, May 17, when their disagreement escalated into a physical fight.
In an interview with Punch, a resident of the area, Tope Ajise, who lives on Egbatedo Street along the Old Oko Oba area where the incident occurred, said attempts were made to intervene but the situation worsened.
Ajise explained, “It started as a mere argument the night before Friday until we heard in the morning that Taiwo had stabbed Monday. It was all because of N2,500.
“He borrowed the money from Monday, and when the man came to demand his money, Taiwo picked up a knife and stabbed him. The man couldn’t survive; he bled to death. I know the suspect; he is a twin and his name is Taiwo.”
Another resident, who identified himself simply as Taofeek, mentioned that the suspect was one of the men who hung around the area and had no stable means of income.
He added that Taiwo was promptly apprehended by security operatives from the Yoruba vigilante group, the Oodua People’s Congress.
Taofeek remarked, “They just move around, demand taxes, eat and that’s all. There are many people like that in this area who don’t have any concrete means of earning money. So, when you hear about issues like this, you can trace it back to unemployment. You know what they say about idle hands being the devil’s workshop.”
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the suspect, Taiwo Badejo, had been arrested and the investigation was ongoing.
He said, “The suspect’s name is Taiwo Badejo. He has been arrested. The case is now at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.”
