Nollywood actress and producer, Toyin Abraham, has stood by her decision to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.

After the election, Abraham posted that she had met with the then incoming President and discussed his plans to tackle the country’s challenges. However, in light of the increasing hardships in the country, she has faced criticism for her role in bringing the current government to power.

Addressing the backlash during an Instagram Live session on Tuesday, the actress expressed her frustration over the cyberbullying her family has endured due to her political choice.

“Nigeria is a democracy, and I have the right to support and vote for whoever I want,” she asserted.

Abraham also denied allegations that she was paid to support Tinubu. She emphasized her right to choose freely in a democratic society.

“Years back, I wanted [Goodluck] Jonathan, while everyone wanted Buhari, and you guys bullied me,” she recalled. “I have never directed my frustrations at anyone. Some people keep saying I don’t owe anyone an explanation, but you think it is easy? Every day, they put up pictures of my children and curse them. Because you think I am an emotional person, I would always let things slide. But this time, I will not let it slide.”

She continued, “What did my children and family do to you? If you want to curse me, curse me. Do whatever you want to do to me. Those children don’t even know anything, yet you curse and bully them every time, and some people keep saying I should ignore. Enough is enough. I would not take it anymore.”

“It’s democracy. It is my right to choose and vote for whoever I want to vote for,” she concluded. “I am saying it publicly: I never collected a dime to support Tinubu or Sanwo-Olu. I am not that kind of person. That is not the kind of upbringing I have.”
