The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has requested the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan to dismiss the lawsuit brought against him by Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho. Igboho’s suit accuses Adams of defamation of character.
In the lawsuit, Igboho seeks an order for the defendant to pay ₦500 million as aggravated damages due to an alleged leaked audio conversation which he claims tarnished his reputation.
Additionally, Igboho demands “A declaration that the content of an audio clip between the defendant (Adams) and a third party named Nuru Banjo that took place sometime in November 2021, and further published on all news media platforms, including Youtube, is slanderous, libelous and defamatory.”
However, in a motion filed by Adams’ counsel, Oluwole Kehinde, they are asking the court to dismiss the suit.
Adams, in an affidavit supporting the motion, sworn by Michael Oluwanmi Okunore, also requests the court to dismiss the suit due to its failure to follow proper legal process.
Adams stated that the claimant’s writ of summons in the suit lacks the necessary mandatory endorsement indicating it was for service outside Oyo State and in Lagos State.
