The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled a policy meeting for the 2024/2025 admission exercise in tertiary institutions across Nigeria on Friday, July 18, 2024. This meeting, as disclosed in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s spokesperson, will establish the minimum cut-off marks for colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities for the upcoming admission cycle. It will also outline admission guidelines.
The policy meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will include stakeholders such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), heads of tertiary institutions, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to the bulletin, the Registrar will present reports on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications. The meeting will also analyze key performance indicators that could influence government policy.
Furthermore, the meeting aims to inform stakeholders about significant issues from the previous year’s admission exercise and evaluate the performance of candidates in the current year’s UTME to determine the minimum admissible score for the year. It will build upon last year’s consensus on minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Additionally, the policy meeting will establish admission requirements for the current year, initiate the admission process, address unresolved issues from the previous academic year, review stakeholder compliance with existing advisories, and propose necessary amendments.
