The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command clarified on Sunday that Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, was not arrested but was invited for questioning. According to Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, VeryDarkMan was summoned to address allegations involving cyber stalking, cyber bullying, and defamation of character.
Adeh emphasized, “The FCT Police Command wishes to clarify that VeryDarkMan was not arrested but was invited for questioning regarding allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying, and defamation of character.”
Following his voluntary statement on the allegations, VeryDarkMan has been released from custody.
Earlier, activist Deji Adeyanju informed Daily Post that VeryDarkMan had been arrested for allegedly exposing an individual who had reportedly defrauded someone abroad. Adeyanju claimed that the arrest was carried out on the directive of Benneth Igweh, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command. He further alleged that VeryDarkMan was detained on charges of defamation instead of apprehending the accused individual.
Adeyanju stated, “Our client, @thatverydarkman, has just been arrested by the police at the behest of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly defrauded a Nigerian abroad. Instead of arresting the alleged perpetrator, they arrested VDM on charges of defamation.”
