On Friday night, a tragic incident occurred on the Ifon/Owo road in Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State, when bandits attacked a passenger vehicle, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of several National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. According to sources cited by Daily Trust, over 20 bandits ambushed a Sienna space bus transporting passengers from Anambra State to Owo, targeting the vehicle near Ifon town and causing widespread panic among the passengers.
One of the victims, Adewole Paul Oluwaseun, a corps member returning from the NYSC camp in Enugu, was among those abducted. The kidnappers have reportedly contacted Oluwaseun’s family, demanding a ransom of N30 million.
During the attack, the driver of the vehicle and a young woman seated in the front were shot while trying to flee. Both individuals later died from their injuries, and their bodies have been taken to a morgue at a private hospital in Ifon.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, confirmed the incident. She noted that security agencies have launched an operation to rescue the kidnapped victims. While she confirmed the deaths of the driver and the female passenger, she was unable to provide an exact count of those abducted. Odunlami-Omisanya assured reporters that efforts are underway to rescue the victims safely.
