Charles Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, has shared that his family has not given a daughter’s hand in marriage for 142 years. According to Drivetvnews, Soludo recently married off his daughter, Adaora, in a ceremony held at his hometown of Osuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, on Saturday.
The wedding was graced by numerous dignitaries, including members of his government and his in-laws from Onitsha.
On his Facebook page, Soludo explained that this traditional marriage was the first in his family in over a century. He attributed this rarity to a historical scarcity of female children in his lineage, a pattern he broke with the birth of his four daughters.
Soludo wrote: “In the presence of my family, kinsmen, friends, and my in-laws from Onitsha, I gave away my beloved daughter, Ifeatu Adaora Soludo, to her partner following all traditional rites as prescribed by the customs of the Isuofia community.
“I am celebrating this significant event for two reasons. Firstly, it marks the first such marital union in the Soludo family in 142 years, as far as I can estimate. This is largely due to the fact that female children have been rare in the past three generations. By breaking this ‘jinx,’ I am grateful that God has blessed me with four wonderful daughters, who I cherish daily.”
