Three officers from the Nigeria Police Force have been arrested in connection with the death of a student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara State. The student, Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, was reportedly shot on September 4, 2024.
In response to this incident, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has instructed the Homicide section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the officers involved have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, all stationed in the Department of Operations at the Kwara State Command. These officers are currently in custody for further questioning.
The IGP has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event and extended his condolences to Ishola’s family, friends, and colleagues. He emphasized that the significant grief caused by this incident is acknowledged and assured that justice will be pursued.
Ishola, who was studying for a National Diploma II in Electrical/Electronics Engineering at Kwara State Polytechnic, was killed under unclear circumstances in the Fate Area of Ilorin.
