One year after his tragic passing, Nigerian celebrity musician Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, widely known as Chike, has reflected on his memories of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad. Chike, who collaborated with Mohbad on the track “Egwu,” expressed in his tribute that Mohbad’s influence extended well beyond his musical contributions.
Chike, renowned for his album “SonofChike,” highlighted that Mohbad, also known as Imole, truly embodied the essence of his name, which means “light.” On his X account, Chike lamented the untimely loss of Mohbad, noting that their growing bond was tragically cut short.
“Thinking of you today, Mohbad. We created music together, but your impact goes beyond that. Your energy and talent still resonate. Your spirit and light continue to inspire, and I’m grateful for the bond we were building. Rest well, my friend. You will always remain in our hearts,” Chike wrote.
Mohbad’s death in 2023 was shrouded in controversy, leading to significant unrest among his fans, the government, and the music industry. British-Nigerian artist and producer Azeez Adeshina Fashola, known as Naira Marley, has been named a suspect in the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.
