The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced a regional variation in petrol prices sourced from the Dangote Refinery. The highest prices are expected in the northern regions.

In a statement released on Monday, titled “NNPC Ltd Announces Estimated Pump Prices for PMS from Dangote Refinery Based on September 2024 Pricing,” NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye outlined the pricing details.

The statement indicated that petrol could cost ₦1,019 per litre in Borno State, while in Abuja, Sokoto, Kano, and other northern states, the price will be ₦999.22 per litre. In southern regions such as Oyo and Rivers, petrol will be priced at ₦960 per litre. Lagos and nearby areas will have the lowest price at ₦950 per litre.

This price variation reflects the logistical and distribution challenges faced by NNPCL.

Soneye explained that these petrol prices are determined through negotiations and are not set by the government, according to the Petroleum Industry Act. He added that NNPC Ltd will be paying Dangote Refinery in USD for September 2024, with naira transactions beginning on October 1, 2024. Any disputes regarding the pricing could result in discounts from Dangote Refinery, which will be passed on to the public.

The statement also addressed a recent dispute with the Dangote Group over a claimed price of ₦898, noting that Dangote did not provide an official price list.
