The administration of President Bola Tinubu has officially backed the upcoming Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival 2024, scheduled to be held in Oyo State. This support was confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy in a statement released on Saturday.
Reports indicate that this first edition of the carnival, initiated by the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Gbandi Olaoye, is planned for December 2024.
In a letter dated October 9, 2024, the ministry commended Oba Olaoye for his dedication to promoting social and economic progress in his community through cultural efforts.
The letter, signed by Akudo-Nwosu, Director of the Ministry’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Department, emphasized the event’s importance as a platform for job creation, social participation, and socio-economic development.
The ministry further acknowledged the carnival’s role in bolstering Nigeria’s arts, culture, and creative industries.
The statement read, “This initiative by the Soun of Ogbomoso aligns with our national objective of promoting economic growth through cultural activities.
“The Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival is set to be a lively event that will celebrate the town’s rich traditions while creating opportunities for local businesses and artisans.”
Expressing gratitude for the ministry’s endorsement, Williams Adeleye, the Chairman of the planning committee, noted that the carnival would feature various cultural performances, craft exhibitions, and other activities that showcase Ogbomoso’s unique heritage.
He also mentioned that the Oyo State Government has included the event in its annual tourism calendar.
