The Osun State Police Command has taken a suspect, identified as Saudi, into custody for allegedly killing his father by beheading him on a farm in Ilusi village.
The incident, which has stunned the community, is said to be the first of its kind in many years. According to reports, the victim, known locally as Baale, disappeared after heading to the farm on Thursday morning.
A local villager, Ismail Olaolu, told Vanguard that a search team made up mostly of village youths found Baale’s body without a head on Friday, November 1, covered with palm leaves. Attention quickly turned to Baale’s son, who had accompanied him to the farm that day. It is reported that the son confessed to the crime during questioning.
Near the victim’s body, his motorcycle and harvested cocoa were discovered. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
Osun Police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect is being held in custody as the investigation proceeds.
