The Southwest Zonal Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Olalekan Folorunsho, also known as Lekan Salami, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action against Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.

According to DriveTV News, MC Oluomo was recently declared NURTW President by a faction following a contentious election held in Osogbo, Osun State. However, this election was nullified by the Appeal Court. On November 8, the appellate court upheld a March 11, 2024, ruling by the National Industrial Court, which affirmed Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate National President of the NURTW.

In a statement issued on Monday, Olalekan Salami criticized the ongoing “gangsterism” within the union and made it clear that MC Oluomo is not an official member of the NURTW.

Salami explained that MC Oluomo had formally renounced his membership in 2022 after being disciplined by the union’s national leadership, even going as far as destroying his NURTW identity card.

He further stated that there is no official record of MC Oluomo rejoining the union. Salami highlighted that the union’s constitution requires a formal reentry process, which includes submitting a written request through the appropriate channels, beginning with the unit chairman, and a waiting period of at least two years before eligibility for higher office. Salami emphasized that MC Oluomo had not adhered to these procedures.

“It is disappointing that MC Oluomo continues to portray himself as a member of the union despite his resignation in 2022. The union’s constitution is unambiguous, and his actions lack any legal basis,” Salami said.

Salami also raised concerns about Alhaji Moshood Ajao, a former NURTW secretary, who he accused of falsely claiming leadership in Osun State.
