A fire outbreak on Saturday caused extensive damage at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

The fire, which reportedly began around 5 a.m. in the office of a pediatric consultant, damaged electronic devices, engines, books, office equipment, and part of the roof. Sources suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical spark.

It was reported that 16 patients in the affected ward were quickly evacuated to safety.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Ogunleye Omotayo, confirmed that no lives were lost during the incident.

The statement read:

“The management wishes to inform the public that the fire incident earlier this morning (Saturday) did not cause significant damage to the hospital.

“We are relieved to report that no injuries or fatalities occurred. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

“Power supply has since been restored, and activities have resumed in the affected area.

“We sincerely thank our staff, the Oyo State Fire Service, and others who responded swiftly. The situation is under control, and there is no cause for concern. Normal operations can continue without interruption.”
