The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a teacher following an incident that left a student blind in one eye.
The incident occurred at Owiwi Nursery and Primary School in Obada Oko. The victim, 11-year-old Alao Idera, a sixth-grade pupil, sustained a severe injury to his right eye.
The teacher involved, Adeola Adeyemo, is reportedly a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu-Ode. He was teaching at the school while also participating in religious activities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the incident happened when Adeyemo accidentally injured the student while handling a necklace. The necklace struck Idera’s face during a moment of confusion, causing serious damage.
The boy was quickly taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta for treatment. Unfortunately, the injury was so severe that doctors had no choice but to remove the damaged eye.
Odutola stated that the teacher has been taken into custody and is being investigated further to determine the details of the incident.
