Google, the world’s leading search engine, has unveiled its list of the most-searched topics and questions in Nigeria for 2024. This annual ranking highlights the interests and concerns of Nigerians, ranging from politics and entertainment to technology and lifestyle.
The report indicates that popular searches in 2024 included Bobrisky, a controversial public figure; Betta Edu, the former Minister of Human Resources removed over corruption allegations; and the National Grid, reflecting concerns about the country’s power infrastructure. Rising music artist Shallipopi, known for his contributions to the Taka-Sufee genre, also emerged as one of the most-searched personalities.
Among the trending technology searches was the iPhone 16, which has been identified as one of the most expensive smartphones of the year. Google’s report also noted that political matters are a significant focus for West Africans, with Nigerians showing particular interest in political developments, economic issues, and the recent U.S. elections.
The newly adopted Nigerian national anthem was another widely searched topic, becoming a cultural highlight of the year.
