The Delta State Police Command has taken a woman, Blessing Ibuku, into custody for allegedly killing her 10-month-old child, Prevail Jonathan, by throwing the infant into a river.
Reports indicate that Blessing confessed to the crime, stating that she threw her child into the river on November 31, 2024, after being mocked by her friends.
The child was first reported missing to the police on December 4, 2024. During the investigation, authorities received information about a child’s body found floating in the Aviara community river.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Asaba on Tuesday.
Olufemi explained that the body was identified as that of the missing child after it was brought to the station. He further disclosed, “The suspect admitted to throwing the child into the river because she was ridiculed by her friends, who claimed the baby had no father.”
The Commissioner assured that the suspect will be promptly arraigned in court to face the appropriate legal charges.
