A tragic incident unfolded in Osogbo, Osun State, where Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, the founder of Rapture Empowerment International, was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Thursday while attempting to mediate a domestic dispute.

Reports indicate that the couple involved, though not legally divorced, had a history of frequent conflicts that led to their separation. The wife, who was said to serve as an interpreter at Bishop Olaribigbe’s church in the BCGA area of Osogbo, had reportedly been ill, prompting the clergyman to visit her.

Sources revealed that the estranged husband arrived at the wife’s residence during the bishop’s visit and, upon finding him there, became enraged. Accusing the pastor of inappropriate conduct, the situation escalated into a heated confrontation. In a fit of anger, the husband allegedly stabbed Bishop Olaribigbe in the chest, killing him instantly.

A church member, speaking anonymously, confirmed the tragic event, stating that the clergyman died on the spot. Both the husband and wife were subsequently arrested and detained at the Dugbe Police Division in Osogbo.

The bishop’s remains have been taken to the morgue at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital.

Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed the incident and provided additional details, explaining, “The couple was estranged but not officially divorced. The pastor had often intervened to help resolve their disputes. On this occasion, he was at the wife’s residence when the husband arrived and allegedly stabbed him multiple times.”

Opalola also mentioned that there are suspicions the husband might have believed the Pastor was involved in an affair with his wife, although investigations are still ongoing.
