Suspected Lakurawa bandits launched an attack along the Zogirma–Tilli Road in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, allegedly targeting commuters for abduction.

Upon receiving the alert, the Divisional Police Officer in Zogirma mobilized a response team, supported by officers from the 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Birnin Kebbi. A violent confrontation followed, during which three police officers lost their lives.

Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in an official statement. He noted that several of the assailants were also killed during the exchange of gunfire. The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, commended the officers for their bravery and ultimate sacrifice.

Reacting to the attack, Governor Nasir Idris confirmed the fatalities and announced the postponement of a scheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi out of respect for the fallen officers.

In a separate development, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 223 Light Battalion in Zuru successfully repelled a large-scale assault on Ribah, a town in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.

The attempted invasion took place on Wednesday, involving more than 400 heavily armed bandits. The army engaged the attackers in a prolonged shootout, resulting in significant casualties among the bandits. While some bodies were recovered by the assailants, many were left behind alongside recovered weapons.

The Director of Security in Kebbi State’s Cabinet Office, Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, confirmed the event and praised the army’s swift response and tactical skill. He stated that although the attackers outnumbered the troops, the professionalism and determination of the soldiers shifted the battle in favor of the military.
