Rt. Hon. Oriyomi Adewunmi Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, has passed away after a short illness.
Her death was confirmed through a tweet posted on the official X account of the National Assembly on Wednesday evening.
Onanuga, born on December 2, 1965, was a politician and businesswoman. She had been serving as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives since 2023.
Originally from Hammersmith, London, Onanuga was born to Nigerian parents. She won a seat in the House of Representatives in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and also served as the Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development.
