The Kano State Hisbah Board detained a man and his girlfriend for conducting a marriage ceremony at Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road in Kano.
Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, the Deputy Commander General of Operations for the board, confirmed the arrests to Drivetvnews on Thursday. He explained that Hisbah officers raided the restaurant on Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off.
“It is regrettable to report that the marriage ceremony was organized by the man’s friends at the restaurant without obtaining consent from the couple’s parents,” he stated.
Dr. Abubakar emphasized that the board would not tolerate actions that violate Shari’a law within the state.
He further mentioned that the board has initiated a search for all attendees involved in the unauthorized marriage ceremony.
“We have apprehended the couple and are currently pursuing the groom’s friends who fled the scene when our officers arrived,” he added.
The deputy commander noted that the couple disregarded all marriage conditions, representing a clear breach of Shari’a law.
