A 13-year-old boy, Samuel Sunday, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command after he was caught carrying his father’s firearm at St. Paul Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area (LGA). The teenager reportedly threatened to shoot his classmates.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Baba Mohammed Azare, revealed this during a press briefing in Uyo, stating that the boy’s father was also taken into custody.

Incident Details

CP Azare explained that on January 30, 2025, at around 8:00 a.m., authorities received a report that a young student had brought a gun to school two days earlier and was making threats.

Police officers acted swiftly, arresting the boy and recovering a locally made pistol. During questioning, the teenager admitted to having taken the firearm from his father’s wardrobe in November 2024. His father was later arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

Additional Arrests and Recoveries

In a separate incident, law enforcement officers arrested Abasifreke Udo Thomas, also known as Udo Orlando or Olamide, in connection with the shooting of a woman in December 2024. He was located at a hotel, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him. The case remains under investigation.

On January 30, 2025, at about 1:07 p.m., three suspects—Uyobong Ekong Edet (24), Israel Daniel Bassey (19), and Nsikak Asuquo Okon (18)—were arrested for alleged attempted murder, cult-related activities, and illegal firearm possession.

Items recovered from the suspects included:

  • A locally made pistol
  • Three live cartridges
  • Three machetes
  • A bottle wrapped in red cloth containing a concoction believed to provide bullet resistance
  • Several wraps of suspected marijuana
  • ₦371,550 in cash

The suspects will face legal proceedings in court.

Further Criminal Activities Uncovered

Police also arrested two individuals involved in an attack on a Setraco company site in Use Ikot Amama, Ibiono Ibom LGA. A locally made pistol was confiscated from them.

Additionally, two women, Roseline Maurice and Eno Udoka, were arrested for allegedly conspiring to kidnap a child in Obong Itam village, Itu LGA, in June 2024. Reports indicate that they sold the child for ₦200,000 to a buyer in Cross River State and used the money to purchase household appliances, including a refrigerator, television, and fan. Law enforcement officials have since recovered these items.

Investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served in all cases.
