The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Okafor, for allegedly causing the death of his brother, Emmanuel Okafor.
The incident occurred on Friday in Adegbe Village, Abagana, located in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Eyewitnesses reported that a disagreement over food supplies in their home escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, Kosisochukwu allegedly struck his brother in the chest with a stick, causing fatal injuries.
“It started as an argument, which quickly turned into a fight. The younger brother used a stick to hit his chest, and he collapsed,” an eyewitness recounted.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that officers from the Abagana Police Divisional Headquarters, along with local vigilante operatives, arrested the suspect at around 7 p.m. on Friday.
“On February 7, 2025, at approximately 7 p.m., police officers from the Abagana Divisional Headquarters, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, arrested 37-year-old Anthony Kosisochukwu Okafor of Adegbe Village, Abagana, in connection with the death of his 45-year-old elder brother, Emmanuel Okafor,” Ikenga stated.
“The suspect admitted to engaging in a physical altercation with his brother following a disagreement over food supplies. During the fight, he used a stick to strike his brother’s chest, which resulted in his death. The victim was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
“This unfortunate incident emphasizes the need for peaceful conflict resolution within families to prevent such tragic outcomes.”
Ikenga further noted that the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka. Once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will face charges in court.
