The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of a 76-year-old man, Sikiru Olatunji, who was found dead after being reported missing on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, provided details of the incident. She stated that Olatunji’s body was located about 1.5 kilometers from Wasinmi, Abule Maria, near Balogun Village in Yewa North Local Government Area.
The deceased was found lying on his back with a cutlass beside him. However, there were no visible injuries on his body, leaving the cause of death unknown.
Odutola explained that the discovery was made following an extensive search operation conducted by officers from the Imasayi Police Division, assisted by Amotekun operatives. Members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, the Baale, and local hunters also took part in the search efforts.
After the body was found, the family requested custody for burial, which the authorities approved.
The police have since launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of his death. Odutola encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the inquiry.
