The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested individuals suspected of involvement in ritual activities and armed robbery in two separate operations, reaffirming its dedication to combating crime in the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the first incident took place on February 4, 2025, around 7:00 PM in Koko town.
The police report revealed that Bello Abubakar, in collaboration with Jamilu Bello, Safiyanu Bello, Usman Inda, and another suspect currently at large, Idrisu Yauri, allegedly deceived Shamsu Adamu into handing over ₦2,025,000 under the pretense of printing CFA currency worth thirty million.
When Adamu could not provide additional funds as requested, the suspects reportedly threatened him with severe consequences unless he provided a child for ritual purposes. Under duress, he surrendered his four-year-old daughter, Amina Shamsu.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Koko Divisional Police Headquarters intervened promptly, arresting the suspects in the act. Items recovered from the scene included a calabash, white and black clothing, three bottles of local perfume, and various charms.
In another incident on February 9, 2025, at about 8:00 PM, a commercial motorcyclist, Abubakar Muhammad, was transporting two passengers, Abdullahi Bello and Jamilu Adamu, to Unguwar Mairago village in Birnin Kebbi LGA when they were attacked by four armed men.
The assailants, armed with sticks and knives, assaulted the victims. However, their cries for help alerted police officers stationed at a nearby checkpoint, who responded swiftly. Two of the attackers, Bashar Abdullahi and Babangida Hassan, were apprehended at the scene, while the remaining two managed to escape. A knife was recovered from the location.
Commending his officers for their prompt action, Commissioner of Police Bello Sani urged them to remain vigilant and proactive in responding to distress calls.
He also instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure a thorough investigation leading to prosecution.
The CP reassured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and encouraged the public to stay security-conscious, reporting any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
