In the early hours of Saturday, armed robbers attacked the Awolowo Hall of Residence at the University of Ibadan, stealing valuables worth thousands of naira from students.
Items taken during the incident included mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and other personal belongings. Reports indicate that some students were also subjected to physical assault during the raid, which lasted for several hours.
According to a university source, security personnel responded swiftly after hearing the students’ distress calls. Some suspects were apprehended and handed over to the Sango Police Station, while efforts are ongoing to capture those who escaped.
Confirming the incident, the University of Ibadan’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, stated that hall wardens reported the loss of students’ mobile phones.
Attempts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, for additional information were unsuccessful.
