A fatal fire broke out on Sunday night in Ondo town, Ondo State, resulting in the deaths of a middle-aged woman and her two children. The incident occurred on Rainbow Street, Onipakala Junction, near Adeyemi Road.
As of Monday, the cause of the fire was still unclear, but the victims were reported to have been burned beyond recognition in the blaze, which lasted for several hours.
A local source explained that the woman, who was a small business owner, and her children—Bukola, 16, and Ife, 11—were trapped in the fire, and their home was completely destroyed.
Efforts by neighbors to rescue the family were unsuccessful due to the absence of the state fire service. According to the source, calls to the fire service were met with the response that they lacked the necessary water and chemicals to extinguish the flames.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ondo State, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that the remains of the woman and her children had been taken to the morgue by the police.
