A man identified as Iliayasu Mohammed has been accused of murdering his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, after inviting him over for a meal at his home.
Reports indicate that Mohammed invited Muhammad to his residence in Dantata Village, located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). After serving him food, Mohammed allegedly attacked him with a cutlass.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to Adeh, officers received a distress call at approximately 1:30 PM on February 13, 2025.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood, having sustained multiple cutlass wounds to his head and body,” she stated.
She further explained that preliminary investigations suggest Mohammed lured the victim to his home under the pretense of hospitality before launching the brutal attack. The injured victim was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Police investigations also uncovered that Mohammed is a former convict with alleged ties to a criminal syndicate involved in stealing motorcycles.
“During questioning, Mohammed confessed to the killing and revealed that he was part of a gang led by an individual named Hassan, who is currently on the run. This syndicate is notorious for attacking motorcyclists and stealing their bikes,” Adeh added.
Authorities are currently working to track down other members of the gang who managed to escape. Meanwhile, Mohammed is set to face legal action once investigations are concluded.
The FCT Commissioner of Police has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, assuring the public that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
