In an unexpected development, two suspects linked to the murder of Anambra State lawmaker Hon. Justice Azuka have escaped from police custody.
The Anambra State Police Command has launched an extensive operation to recapture the fugitives and has also initiated disciplinary measures against the officers responsible for their escape.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has deployed personnel, intelligence resources, and operational strategies to ensure the suspects are rearrested and brought to justice.
The escape occurred during an operation to apprehend an individual involved in receiving stolen vehicles connected to the suspects’ criminal activities. While the alleged receiver was taken into custody and two vehicles were recovered, the two suspects managed to flee.
Authorities have assured the public that all efforts are being made to locate and arrest the escapees. Meanwhile, officers found responsible for the security breach will face disciplinary action.
This incident follows the earlier arrest of nine suspects in connection with the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, who represented Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
