The Kebbi State Government, in partnership with the NANAS Foundation, has begun distributing essential wedding items to beneficiaries of a mass wedding set to take place on February 27, 2025, at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace.
Known as “Auren Gata,” the initiative is spearheaded by Governor Dr. Nasir Idris to support 300 couples from different parts of the state. The program is jointly coordinated by the state government and the NANAS Foundation, with the governor’s wife, Nafisa Nasir Idris, overseeing it as her pet project.
During the distribution ceremony in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, highlighted that this year’s event is expected to surpass the previous edition in terms of organization and assistance. He attributed the smooth distribution process to the early procurement of wedding materials.
“The Kebbi State Government and NANAS Foundation have shown unwavering dedication to this initiative. We encourage them to continue this effort for the benefit of all,” he remarked.
Similarly, Alhaji Kabiru Alaramma, Secretary of the Transportation Committee and Acting Chairman, described the mass wedding as a valuable contribution to the state and society.
“We have commenced the distribution of wedding essentials such as beds, mattresses, chairs, and wedding attire for both male and female participants,” he stated.
Safiyanu Garba-Bena, a former Head of Service and member of the transport committee, recalled the success of a similar initiative last year. He urged beneficiaries to use the provided materials wisely to build stable and fulfilling marriages.
