The Bauchi State Police Command has taken a 25-year-old woman, Salamatu Danjuma, into custody for her alleged involvement in the death of her husband. Danjuma, a resident of Nadabo village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, was arrested following the incident.
In a statement released on Monday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed that initial investigations indicate the couple had been entangled in a prolonged dispute over the custody of their six-year-old daughter.
Wakil explained that although the wife’s family had initially agreed to take in the child, the husband later changed his mind, leading to heightened tensions.
“The disagreement took a tragic turn when Salamatu, overwhelmed by the situation and in the heat of an argument, picked up a knife from their bedroom, resulting in fatal consequences,” the statement read.
Upon receiving a distress call, officers from the Bununu Police Divisional Headquarters arrived at the scene and swiftly transported the injured man to a Cottage Hospital in Bununu for urgent medical attention.
“Sadly, medical personnel later confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries,” Wakil added.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough and discreet investigation. Once completed, necessary legal measures will be taken.
