Two farmers were reportedly killed by suspected armed herdsmen in Okpekpe, a community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victims, identified as Batemue Philip Ebo and Christopher Bello, were ambushed and fatally attacked on their way to the farm on Monday morning.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that the Chief of Okpekpe reported the attack to the authorities around 9 a.m. on Monday.

“The command received a report at approximately 0900 hours from the Chief of Okpekpe, informing us that two residents were attacked and killed on their farms by suspected herdsmen,” Yamu said.

According to him, a team comprising the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and mobile police officers stationed in Uzanu was dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the victims’ lifeless bodies.

Yamu further stated that security measures in the area had been reassessed to track down those responsible and prevent future incidents.

“We have reviewed security strategies in the region to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and to prevent similar attacks,” he added.
