The Bauchi State Police Command has taken a 50-year-old man, Nuru Isah, into custody for allegedly causing the death of his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi.
In a statement released on Sunday, police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil reported that authorities were alerted to a suspected homicide on Saturday near Government Girls College in the Fadamam Mada area of Bauchi.
Investigations suggest that the incident resulted from a disagreement between Isah, a businessman at Central Market Bauchi, and his wife over food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking the Ramadan fast. The argument reportedly escalated into violence.
According to Wakil, Isah allegedly struck his wife with a cane, causing her to lose consciousness. She was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), where doctors later confirmed her death.
The police have launched a full investigation into the case and have recovered the cane believed to have been used in the assault. The victim’s body has been placed in the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, assured the public that the case would be handled with the utmost seriousness. He also emphasized the dangers of domestic violence and reiterated the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring justice.
