A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Rofiat Lawal, who was recently freed after being abducted along the Benin-Ore Expressway, has shared her harrowing experience.
According to Drivetvnews, Lawal regained her freedom on Saturday after her family paid a ransom of N1.1 million.
In a widely shared Facebook video, she recounted how her abductors took all her belongings, including her NYSC uniform. She noted that one of the kidnappers even wore her uniform and cap.
Lawal revealed that during her four-day captivity, the kidnappers forced them to trek through the forest every night.
“When we got into the bush, they searched all of us, taking our phones and money. Some market women who were with us had large sums—N700,000, N1.2 million, and N600,000. I only had N15,000, which they took, along with my phone,” she said.
She added, “They also took my NYSC uniform, and one of them wore it along with my cap.”
While she was not subjected to the same level of violence as some of the older women held captive, Lawal stated that she was slapped multiple times.
