The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old woman, Fatima Mohammed, on suspicion of murdering her co-wife, Hajara Isa, in their shared home.

Police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that authorities had launched a thorough investigation into the tragic event.

The case came to light when the husband of both women, Sale Isa, reported the incident on March 3, 2025, raising concerns about the circumstances of Hajara’s death.

“At approximately noon on March 3, 2025, Sale Isa, a resident of Anguwan Sarakuna in Bauchi, reported suspicions regarding the manner of his wife’s death. Family members have also expressed concerns that her co-wife may have been involved,” the statement read.

According to police findings, the incident took place on February 28, 2025, within the family’s residence. Following the report, Commissioner of Police Auwal Muhammad immediately assigned a team of detectives to investigate the matter.

Subsequent inquiries led to the arrest of Fatima Mohammed, who reportedly confessed to the crime.

“During questioning, she admitted to strangling her co-wife to death. In an attempt to cover up the act, she allegedly poured boiling water on the body and tried to burn it using a melting Bagco sack,” Wakil disclosed.

The case has since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries.

To ensure a comprehensive probe, the Commissioner of Police has assembled a specialized team of homicide detectives. The team will employ forensic and scientific methods, potentially including exhumation and technical analysis, to uncover all relevant details and guarantee justice.

“This dedicated team is committed to conducting a meticulous, professional, and timely investigation to reveal the truth and resolve any uncertainties,” Wakil assured.
