An 80-year-old trader, Ladan Bature, was fatally stabbed on Monday during a dispute at the Kara Cattle Market along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Isheri Olofin.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed to Drivetvnews that a suspect, identified as Haiye Aginni, had been arrested in connection with the attack.
This incident took place just a day after another fatal stabbing in the state, where a teenager, Olamide Phillips, allegedly killed his friend, Moses Odeh, during an altercation on Obalende Street in Isara.
Speaking on Wednesday, the state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the suspect allegedly stabbed Bature in front of the Kara Market mosque.
Despite efforts by traders and residents to get him medical help, Bature was pronounced dead by a doctor upon arrival at the hospital.
Odutola further stated, “After the incident was reported to the Ojodu Abiodun Police Division, officers responded promptly and apprehended the suspect.
“Bature’s remains have been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu for autopsy and preservation.
“The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further inquiries.”
