The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended three suspects and is actively pursuing five others in connection with the killing of Adedamola Ogunbode, a recent 2024 graduate of Lagos State University (LASU).

Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Friday following a report by Drivetvnews. The report highlighted the Lagos chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council’s intention to protest the handling of the case.

Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025, amid speculation that his dismembered body had been discovered.

Among those arrested is Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor who allegedly received ₦70,000 from the victim’s bank account. Also in custody is Sheriff Adebayo, a church member who reportedly received ₦300,000.

Additionally, Omolara Ajisomo was arrested for allegedly aiding her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, in fleeing to Cotonou, Benin Republic, after they each received ₦300,000 from Ogunbode’s account.

Hundeyin stated that what initially began as a missing person’s case has now evolved into a suspected homicide investigation.

“Significant progress has been made, and all efforts are focused on locating the victim’s body and determining the cause of death,” he said.

He further conveyed the commitment of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, to ensuring justice.

“The command is fully dedicated to resolving this case and holding those responsible accountable,” he added.

Addressing students’ concerns, he confirmed that Jimoh had assigned the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the investigation for a more in-depth inquiry.

“All aspects of the case will be thoroughly examined, and students’ concerns will be addressed,” he assured.

Hundeyin also urged the public to allow law enforcement to conduct the investigation without interference.

“There is no political influence in this case. The investigation will proceed impartially and transparently in the pursuit of justice,” he affirmed.

He reiterated that the police would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that everyone involved is arrested and prosecuted.

The statement concluded that, in the interest of justice, the findings of the investigation would be made public.
