A woman, whose identity remains unknown, tragically jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge and was later found lifeless.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 4 p.m. near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront section of the bridge.
Marine police officers stationed in the vicinity quickly responded to the situation and recovered the body, but despite rescue efforts, she did not survive.
The exact reason behind the incident remains unclear, though some witnesses suspect suicide.
Confirming the event, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that although marine police officers attempted to save her, medical personnel at UNILAG pronounced her dead upon arrival.
Her body has since been transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
“At approximately 4 p.m. on March 13, 2025, an unidentified woman was reported to have jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront around 3 p.m.,” Hundeyin said.
“She was retrieved at the UNILAG shore slipway by a team of marine police officers stationed in the area. Despite their rescue efforts, a team of UNILAG medical doctors confirmed her death in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division.”
Her remains have been moved to the IDH Mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, for safekeeping.
