Residents of Ikire, Osun State, were gripped with fear on Sunday following the discovery of a corpse at an abandoned bus stop along the Ife/Ibadan Expressway.
The unidentified body was reportedly left at the location in the early hours of the day, prompting concerns among locals who chose to avoid the area.
The deserted bus stop where the corpse was found is situated near a divisional office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
A local trader, identified as Sesan, shared his account with PUNCH Metro, explaining that he was informed of the situation early on Sunday.
“I closed my shop late on Saturday, but while still at home this morning, I received a call informing me that a dead body had been abandoned near my shop. When I arrived at the scene, I saw Civil Defence officers standing nearby,” he said.
According to him, the matter was reported to the police at the Ikire Division, but as of Sunday afternoon, the body remained at the scene. He noted that residents were hesitant to approach the area, as the identity of the deceased was still unknown.
Sesan also pointed out that the delay in removing the corpse was likely due to the inactivity of local government councils in the state.
When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Command, Adeola Adeoye, requested additional time to provide a response but had yet to issue an update at the time of filing this report.
