A widely circulated video has sparked outrage after capturing a man, identified as Sani from Askira Close, Pompomari Bypass in Maiduguri, Borno State, brutally attacking a young girl for picking mangoes from a tree on his property.
The footage, shared extensively on Facebook and obtained by SaharaReporters, shows Sani repeatedly striking the defenseless child with large sticks. The violent act has led to public condemnation, with many demanding swift justice.
Drivetvnews Reports indicate that the girl sustained serious injuries, raising concerns about potential long-term harm. The incident has fueled widespread calls for legal action against the perpetrator.
In response, Potent Attorneys Legal Practice & Consultancy has formally petitioned the Borno State Commissioner of Police, urging immediate intervention and prosecution of Sani.
“We call for the case to be taken over from civil defense officials, who initially arrested the suspect, and request urgent action from your office,” the petition stated.
The petition also emphasized the need for swift justice, asserting, “This child deserves protection, and her attacker must be held fully accountable under the law.”
The legal firm outlined key demands, including a thorough investigation, medical and psychological support for the victim, and a strong stance against violence toward children.
Confirming the incident to Drivetvnews, Borno State Police Public Relations Officer Nahum Daso Kenneth stated that Sani had been taken into custody and promised further updates.
“The suspect has been arrested. More details will follow soon,” he said.
