Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a strong warning to traditional rulers in the conflict-affected communities of Ifon, Erin Osun, and Ilobu, stating that failure to maintain peace could result in their removal.

In a statement released on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital, by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor underscored the urgency of restoring stability following recent violent clashes over long-standing boundary disputes. These conflicts have led to significant loss of life and destruction of property valued in the billions of naira.

The warning follows intelligence reports suggesting that certain groups are planning fresh attacks despite ongoing peace efforts.

“During the Sallah celebrations, I received reports of individuals conspiring to incite further violence in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun. Security agencies are on high alert to prevent any escalation,” Adeleke stated.

The governor also announced that security forces are intensifying their investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crisis. He stressed that the peace agreements signed by community leaders must be honored and are not merely symbolic.

“The curfew was relaxed for humanitarian reasons, recognizing that many innocent residents are suffering due to the actions of a few troublemakers. However, if this leniency is abused to instigate new violence, the 24-hour curfew will be reinstated,” he warned.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to taking decisive action against any traditional ruler under whose leadership violence reoccurs.

“Any monarch who fails to prevent violence in their domain will be removed from office. Our royal fathers have a duty to ensure peace, and this unrest must end immediately,” he declared.
