The International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR) on Tuesday called on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, to take all necessary steps to preserve the integrity of Yoruba cultural and traditional values.
In a congratulatory statement issued in Ibadan, Oyo State, by ICIR President Fayemi Fakayode, the council expressed its full support in safeguarding the throne and upholding the core values of the Yoruba people, which are respected globally.
Fakayode stated, “We are filled with joy over the successful ascension of Oba Owoade I, Elewuetu, as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom. Your reign following the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi is a testament to Eledumare’s plan to continue advancing traditional Yoruba beliefs and religion.”
He continued, “We urge you to use all available means to protect the sanctity of Yoruba culture and traditions, ensuring that the global respect the Yoruba people deserve is upheld.”
The council also acknowledged the efforts of the late Alaafin Oba Adeyemi in defending Yoruba traditions despite numerous challenges.
Furthermore, the council advised the new Alaafin to remain vigilant against any traditional rulers who may undermine the integrity of the institution in the region.
According to Drivetvnews, Oba Owoade, who received the staff of office and instrument of office on January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, was officially introduced by Governor Seyi Makinde at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
