The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that the three headless bodies found in a river within the Odigbo Local Government Area are suspected to have originated from outside the state.
The discovery, which occurred between the Ore and Odigbo communities, has caused fear and concern among local residents.
Drivetvnews gathered that, the bodies were found floating in the river on Sunday. Upon making the discovery, residents quickly notified security officials.
The condition of the bodies and the way they were positioned led to suspicions that the victims might have been killed for ritual purposes before being dumped in the river.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Alayande, said the case was reported at the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters.
He explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) dispatched detectives to the scene and engaged local community leaders in an effort to identify the victims. However, no one has come forward with information that could help.
Alayande stated, “We recovered three headless bodies from the river in Odigbo. The report was filed at the Ore Division, and the DPO immediately sent officers to the scene. He also contacted community leaders and asked anyone with useful information to come forward or visit the hospital where the bodies were taken. Up till now, no one has identified them.”
He added that the police believe the victims were likely killed in another location and later dumped in the river, with the current possibly carrying their bodies to where they were found.
Meanwhile, a youth leader in the area, Shileola, expressed shock over the incident. He said he rushed to the scene after hearing the news but could not identify the victims or find any clue about their identities.
He also noted that there had been no reports of missing persons in the community, further suggesting that the victims were killed elsewhere before their bodies were disposed of in the river.
