A tragic incident occurred on Saturday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, where an unidentified man reportedly died while attempting to steal a statue of the Agemo deity. The statue was located at the Mafowoku roundabout along Folagbade Road and had been a fixture in the community for over two decades.
Residents awoke to discover that the golden statue, originally installed around 21 years ago, had been removed. Not far from the statue’s remains, the lifeless body of a young man—believed to be involved in the act—was found.
A video circulating online captured the scene, showing a man wearing a blue shirt lying motionless close to the dismantled statue.
Speaking with reporters, a local resident, Hakeem Quadri, confirmed the incident. “It happened just outside my house. We heard people shouting early in the morning, and when we came out, we saw the Agemo statue had been taken down. The person suspected to have done it was found dead at the scene,” he said.
He also mentioned that the deceased’s body was later taken to a mortuary.
