A serious traffic accident near the main entrance of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has left five people with serious injuries.

According to a statement released Wednesday by Seni Ogunyemi, the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the crash occurred on Tuesday evening.

The incident involved a Toyota Sienna and a Toyota Highlander. Witnesses reported that the Sienna was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control and hit the Highlander from behind. The force of the collision caused the Highlander to veer off the road, knocking down pedestrians and flipping into a drainage channel.

“A total of seven individuals were affected in the crash, with five sustaining varying degrees of injuries,” Ogunyemi confirmed.

Emergency responders from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the police arrived at the scene to control traffic and assist the victims. The damaged vehicles were removed and taken to the Mowe Police Station for further investigation.

Three of the injured victims were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OSUTH) in Sagamu by state emergency medical services, while two others received treatment at Famobis Hospital in Lotto, courtesy of the FRSC.

The vehicles involved were identified as a blue Toyota Sienna (registration number MUS 51 JU), a wine-colored Toyota Highlander (LSD 782 DY), and two red Bajaj motorcycles (DED 801 UV and AKM 524 VD).

In a related development reported earlier on April 5, at least 25 people lost their lives—including an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps—in two separate crashes along the same expressway. Eight other individuals were injured.

Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the FRSC in Ogun State, reported that the first of the two incidents occurred near the NIPCO filling station around 7 a.m. It involved a Mack truck (SEY 363 YY), a fuel tanker (T2900 LA), and a commercial bus (LSD 180 YA). The truck was reportedly speeding when the driver lost control and crashed into the other vehicles, resulting in seven fatalities and four injuries.
