In a renewed initiative to address increasing moral decline and social issues in Sokoto State, the state government has announced its intention to establish Hisbah offices in all 23 local government areas.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu revealed this development on Friday during the inauguration of the newly reconstructed Buhari Dan Shehu Jumu’at Mosque in Sokoto.

He explained that the initiative aims to encourage modest behavior and strengthen moral values within communities. The governor noted that the Hisbah corps, which his administration recently reactivated, has already played a vital role in curbing immoral activities in the state.

“We set up the Hisbah Board with the objective of promoting modesty and building a more disciplined, secure, and morally upright society,” he stated.

Governor Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening religious institutions and preserving Islamic principles. As part of these efforts, 65 central Jumu’at mosques and over 40 daily prayer mosques have been renovated across all local government areas.

Furthermore, the governor announced a new monthly support initiative for 90 Jumu’at mosques within Sokoto metropolis, offering financial assistance ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000.

At the event, Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Jabir Sani Mai Hula, called on mosque committees to use the funds responsibly, particularly for maintenance and cleanliness. He added that the support has contributed to the advancement of Islamic teachings throughout the state.

Attendees included Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, representing the Sultan of Sokoto; Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government, Ya’u Muhammad Danda; and prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Mabera.

The event concluded with the official mosque commissioning led by Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, who also conducted the Friday Jumu’at prayer.
