Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has instructed security forces to apprehend anyone seen with dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital.

Speaking during a security stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House on Tuesday, the governor emphasized a firm stance on public conduct. He directed that such individuals should have their hair shaved and be fined accordingly.

“We will not tolerate any form of unruliness. If you see anyone with dreadlocks, arrest them, cut their hair, and issue a fine,” he declared. “No unusual hairstyles will be allowed within Minna. Security agencies have been ordered to enforce this strictly.”

The meeting included participation from law enforcement and traditional leaders.

Governor Bago also urged parents to be more vigilant, warning that the state government would begin implementing more rigorous security measures.

“Parents must caution their children. From now on, we are adopting a no-nonsense approach,” he warned.

Additionally, he ordered that any residence found sheltering criminals would be demolished, asserting, “Niger State will not serve as a refuge for miscreants.”

He further announced a curfew on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Minna, restricting their operation from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., except in medical emergencies.

To support these efforts, the governor directed community leaders—including district, village, and ward heads—to maintain accurate records of all residents in their areas. He added that properties used for criminal activities or drug trafficking would be destroyed.
