The Oyo State Police Command has refuted claims circulating on social media about a recent invasion by suspected Boko Haram members, stating that the video being shared is an outdated clip from 2022.

In a press release issued Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital, Police Public Relations Officer CSP Adewale Osifeso explained that the video—showing trucks allegedly transporting motorcycles and weapons along the Ibadan Expressway—is being misrepresented as a current incident.

Osifeso emphasized that the video is not related to any recent security development in the state and appears to have been deliberately recirculated to cause unnecessary panic.

“The footage is not new and has been confirmed to be from two years ago,” he said. “It is being used to spread misinformation and stir fear among the public at a time when security operations have been intensified.”

He further noted that one of the officers briefly seen in the video, DSP Segun Adeyemo, retired from the force in August 2024, underscoring the fact that the footage predates current events.

The police command urged residents to disregard the misleading content and not to share unverified materials online. Osifeso reassured the public of the command’s dedication to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property throughout the state.

He also encouraged citizens to verify information before posting it to avoid contributing to the spread of false or outdated narratives.
