The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Lagos-based socialite Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, widely known as E-Money, over allegations of currency abuse.
Sources revealed that EFCC operatives apprehended him on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos. The arrest reportedly stems from claims that E-Money was seen spraying U.S. dollars at a public event—an act considered a violation of Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange laws.
An insider from the EFCC stated, “E-Money was taken into custody on Monday night for allegedly misusing the Naira and defacing foreign currency, particularly by spraying U.S. dollars. This is in breach of the Foreign Exchange Act.”
The source added that preliminary investigations are currently underway and that formal charges will be filed upon conclusion of the inquiry.
Another EFCC official, who requested not to be named, confirmed that E-Money is being transferred to Abuja for further questioning by investigators.
“Yes, he has been arrested and is on his way to Abuja for interrogation,” the official said.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to provide comments when contacted regarding the matter.
