A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has been accused of fatally attacking his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident, which occurred around 10 a.m. in Bakin Kasuwa, Sara District, was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, Shi’isu Adam, in a statement released to the press in Dutse on Monday.
According to the PPRO, the suspect allegedly struck his father multiple times, causing severe injuries to his neck, chest, and shoulder. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu, but he was declared dead by doctors shortly after arrival.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Sara led a team to the scene, secured the area, and evacuated the victim to the hospital. The body was later handed over to the family for burial.
Adam confirmed that the suspect was arrested at the scene and that the weapon used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
The state Commissioner of Police, AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a detailed investigation. He emphasized that the suspect will be prosecuted once the investigation is complete.
While the motive for the crime remains unknown, the police have assured the public that a thorough and transparent investigation is underway. Adam urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist the authorities.
The suspect is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
